The New Aggressive Couch!

Strangely Personal

You may not know this, but I’m addicted to self improvement.  Yes, I consider myself the ‘Winston Rothschild’ of punk rock.  I am not living up to my full potential and I want more out of life.  I want more from myself.

About 11 years ago, I got completely fed up with how my life was turning out.  I was not the man I could be.  I wouldn’t even say I was a man.  (I’m not entirely sure I qualify now).  I was tired of drifting along, moving from one disaster to the next with no sense of purpose, and having no success at anything.

Then, I discovered Amway!

Just kidding.

….

I’m not really sure where I was going with this.  I wanted to link to some of my favorite self improvement gurus but it was sounding like an advertisement so I deleted it.  Besides, the words ‘self improvement’ makes me (and presumably you) cringe.

Let me be clear – I am not talking about ‘self motivational’ or ‘inspirational’ crap.  Those things have so much corn you’ll be passing chunks of it in your stool!  Self improvement is all about being an adult, taking responsibility for yourself, and creating the life you want.  ‘Self development’ is a more accurate term.  ‘Self Improvement’ should be a sitcom starring Tim Allen and Dr. Phil.

I’ve seen too many people I care about fumble along, going from one transient pleasure to another, avoiding challenge, and then dying, having never achieved real satisfaction.  I see friends and relatives doing this now.  I won’t allow this to happen to me without a fight!  I DEMAND SATISFACTION!  I AM CHANGING, I AM TAKING OWNERSHIP OF MY LIFE, I AM THE CREATOR OF MY DESTINY.

Anyway, this isn’t very funny, is it?  Not what you expect on a comedy podcast.  Where is the wit?  Where are the jokes?  Okay, here’s one: What’s green and lets you do things?  Permit the Frog!  A ha ha ha!
